The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to drive operational risk management across the Direct Insurance business units in partnership with business owners.


Lead a team that knows and understands the unique risk challenges and opportunities for the Direct Australia Division business units and proactively working with them to drive industry leading risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Executive Manager, Risk, the role will lead a team of high performing professionals to enable the effective delivery of risk management and assurance services across the business unit within the Direct Insurance Australian Division
  • Support the development of an operational risk strategy to identify exposure levels and ensure consistent identification and management of risk across Direct Insurance Australia
  • Working with the Operational Risk leadership team to engage the plan and undertake all Operational Risk activity and increase risk maturity across Direct Insurance Australia Division
  • Work Executive Manager and your peers to increase capability and consistency across the team, including the development and implementation of best practice operational risk activity
  • Lead development and execution of all risk activity (such as risk profiling, riskbased reviews, risk assessments, compliance obligation management, control management and testing, etc) across Direct Insurance business units that drives consistency of identification, management, and remediation across the Division
  • Support the development and implementation of the Quality Assurance Framework across the Division to support continuous improvement within the business
  • Collaborate with Risk Champions to drive awareness of the risk program of work and key business unit dependencies to complete risk activity against the IAG risk frameworks
Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary level qualifications mandatory
  • Minimum 57 years' experience working in a corporate culture, risk management, compliance management and/or project capacity within a large corporation
  • Intimate understanding of risk management frameworks
  • Intimate understanding of communications frameworks
  • Intimate knowledge of the Australian general insurance industry
  • Strong program/project governance and program management skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, communication skills (written & oral)
  • Very strong ability to develop relationships, work effectively with others, and consider needs & potential contributions of others
  • Ability to lead teams of people through significant change over periods of time
  • Create environments where accountable and respectful teams thrive and deliver outstanding results
  • Strategic mindset to see ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategies
  • Ability to cope with pressure and prioritise workload to meet timeframes
  • Ability to work autonomously within a small team framework
  • Qualifications in relevant discipline preferred
  • Highly computer literate with advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skill
