Our newly revamped Property Development and Transactions legal team is currently seeking to appoint a
Principal Legal Officer to provide strategic and specialist legal advice to a diverse range of large scale, complex and innovative projects primarily associated with the Western Parkland City Authority (WPCA).


As an integral senior member of the team, you will provide comprehensive expert legal services and advice in the areas including commercial and contract advice, infrastructure, and procurement to meet the network's needs.

You will be responsible for your own matters, including major projects, and managing all stakeholder relationships and driving timely, commercial outcomes in line with Government objectives and timeframes.

Whilst you will bring your extensive experience and knowledge for your specialisation, this role will allow you to build and acquire new skills and knowledge.

We will also support the development of your leadership capabilities, providing the opportunity to mentor and uplift junior team members.


About You
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated extensive knowledge, and/or experience in most of the following areas:

  • General Property and/or Commercial Law;
  • Construction law experience would be ideal but is not mandatory;
  • Market releases (Expressions of Interest, Tenders, Requests for Proposals, etc);
  • Project Delivery Agreements and ancillary side deeds;
  • Structuring complex transactions;
  • Complex Agreements for Lease and Leases.


If you do not currently possess a thorough understanding of one of the areas of law noted above, but you have the desire and drive to develop it, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Government experience is highly desired.

You will have strong independent analytic and research skills, as well as a proactive, enabling approach to work.

You build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders and colleagues alike, thrive on professional challenges and variety of work and have advanced skills in risk identification and management.


With strong written and verbal communication skills, you effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels and convey the full range of legal concepts within your area of expertise.


Essential Requirements

  • Law Degree.
  • Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practising Certificate.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Thorough understanding of one or more of property development law, property law and construction law.
  • Thorough understanding of procurement and probity considerations.
  • Sound understanding of the various phases of a real estate development project, and the practical constraints, requirements and realities of planning and implementing each phase.
