Job Description:

The Position


Reporting to the Senior Project Controller - Capital Projects Australia, the Cost Analyst will be a member of the Corporate Finance - Capital Projects team.

You will provide support to the Senior Project Controller in maintaining a finance function capable of instilling financial integrity into the delivery of capital projects in Australia.

The role requires active engagement with multiple stakeholders to achieve various deliverables across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Project Finance

  • Assist capital project team with the cashflow/AP forecasting and various project financial controlling topics.
  • Assist capital project team by providing guidance and allocating costs to projects accurately through timesheet booking, variance tracking and reporting.
  • Reclassify project related cost centre expenses to the project in accordance with the Group's capitalization policy.
  • Coordinate with global capital finance management team with activity rate calculation, performance reporting for different projects across Australia.
  • Collaborate with the broader project team, assisting in any manner that could be beneficial (prepare financial models, tax, and accounting advice etc.).
  • Support with the appropriate capitalization of assets once placed in service and ensure change orders are completed as required.
  • Maintain a reconciliation of the foreign exchange difference between VOWD and SAP, if any.
  • Assist in the annual operating plan and longrange planning processes for the capital project portfolio and capital project cost centres.
Operational Finance

  • Manage the monthly end closing process, including but not limited to project cost accruals, provisions calculations and tax effect calculation.
  • Collaborate across the project management, engineering, human resources, purchasing, legal, corporate finance and public relations functional areas within the project as well as the 3rd party management teams.
  • Develop operational budgets, track and report variance analysis and report to management and Group stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with any internal/external audit requirements and needs by providing supporting documentation and data deck.
  • Assist capital project management team in developing monthly performance KPI variance report against AOP target by analysing monthly financial results and G/L journal entry details, identify trends and follow up actions as required.
  • Identify areas of improvement and lead the collaboration to enact solutions.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the Groups accounting policies.
  • Maintain an open mind, an inquisitive nature and be ready to assist the Senior Project Controller
  • Capital Projects Australia with any tasks that could be required of the finance team.
Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with financial analysis, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with Capital Projects and Project Accounting.
  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable.
  • High level of skill within the Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Intermediate / Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel is highly desirable.
  • Strong demonstrated analytical abilities.

  • Proven time management & multitasking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple business areas.
Education / Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is required.
  • CPA or CA qualified
