The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.

The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 465 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.


Associate to Director of Public Prosecutions

Full Time, Fixed Term - Up to 24 Months


The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to join our organisation as an Associate within the Director's Chambers.


This position would be ideal for students currently completing a Law Degree, Juris Doctor or Practical Legal Training as well as solicitors who are newly admitted to practice.

The position is Melbourne based.


About the Role:


  • Provide executive assistance to the Director and office coordination, including administrative, secretarial and executive support services.
  • Communicating and liaising with the media as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaising with other agencies and coordinating various events on behalf of the Director, including the annual Prosecutors Conference and the Director's Series.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to provide confidential executive, administrative and secretarial support services to the DPP.
  • Possess highlevel communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond to confidential and sensitive issues with tact and discretion.
  • Demonstrate the ability coordinate a range of concurrent tasks, meeting deadlines and working effectively with others in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Relevant Knowledge and Experience:


  • An appropriate tertiary qualification or experience providing administrative or support services in a legal or professional environment is desirable.
