About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology are looking for talented Technical Officers to join our Molecular Medicine Department. Based at John Hunter Hospital, we are looking for highly motivated team players

The Molecular Medicine Department performs genomic testing on constitutional/germline, prenatal, haematological and solid tumour samples.

This position will require you to work in a team environment to assist with the delivery of a range of Molecular and Cytogenomic Pathology services.

What you'll be doing

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.
  • Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations.
  • Customer focused approach displaying welldeveloped interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff.
  • Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the delivery of Genetic Pathology services using PCR and genetic sequencing methods such as karyotyping, microarrays, Realtime PCR, Sanger sequencing and Massive Parallel Sequencing.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
