The Role

As the Explosive Ordnance Assurance Officer (EOAO) you will support the Deputy Director Explosive Ordnance Incident and Assurance to deliver the Tier 4 Explosive Ordnance (EO) assurance function on behalf of Director General Explosive Ordnance (DGEO).

The duties of the APS 6 EOAO include but not limited to:

  • Assist in the development of the annual Tier 4 EO assurance program and monitor delivery and report progress.
  • Written input on EO assurance outcomes and findings to respective Boards and Committees.
  • Provide support and advice to the Defence EO community and in particular the Joint Explosive Ordnance Support (JEOS) network to maintain and improve the level of EO assurance support within Defence.
  • Provide guidance on the assurance processes and planning related to Tier 4 EO assurance.
  • Develop, implement and review procedures and practices associated with assurance.

About our Team
You will be part of the EO Incidents and Assurance team (EOIA) in the Directorate of Ordnance Safety (DOS).

The EOIA team comprises both ADF and APS personnel and is responsible for developing and delivering the Tier 4 EO assurance outcome on behalf of DGEO, administering the EO incident management system and for the EO Safety Performance Reporting function.


The team works collaboratively with other DOS teams, Explosive Ordnance Branch (EOB) directorates and other areas of Defence responsible for EO incident and assurance outcomes.

DOS is a business unit of EOB, within Joint Logistics Command and the Joint Capability Group.


You will have a well-developed compliance and assurance understanding and knowledge with relevant auditing qualifications and experience deemed highly desirable.

As an APS 6, you will demonstrate excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, and who can work effectively as part of a team in EOIA and DOS, as well as being able to work independently.

Effective performance in this role is strongly dependent on cultivating strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across Defence.
