War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 6 day a week day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services.

It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.

The Hospital Assistant works as part of the small and cohesive Hotel Services Department at WMH.


This role is responsible for the delivery of effective and efficient cleaning services across the campus of War Memorial Hospital to maintain a clean, hazard free environment for patients, staff, volunteers and visitors; providing the highest possible standard in line with NSW Health Environmental Cleaning Policy.


All Hospital Assistants have some direct patient contact as well as with various members of the healthcare team including nursing, allied health and support staff.

This role is well supported by the Hotel Services Manager.

This position is a Full Time Role.


Selection Criteria:


  • Demonstrated experience as a Cleaner preferably within a Hospital/Health or Aged Care Facility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital cleaning standards and processes
  • Proven interpersonal, written, electronic and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with patients, visitors and other staff across all levels in the Hospital and computer skills relevant to the role and mandatory training requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work well supervised, within a team and also independently following schedules and instructions
  • Ability and availability to work across a 7 day rotating roster between the hours of 06.00 and 22.00hrs
  • Awareness of Work Health Safety and Infection Control principles

All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine AND an Influenza vaccine by 1st June 2023 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 and Influenza vaccination status at interview.
