- $110,321 - $116,399 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is responsible for the design and delivery of the Australian Government's infrastructure, transport, regional development, communications and arts policies and programs.

The Communication, Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch provides high quality advice and support through a range of enabling services, including media engagement activities, ministerial announcements, speechwriting services, strategic communication services, video and design services, social media engagement and advertising campaigns.


The opportunity we have available


The Media Manager will lead a section of the department's Media Team as part of the broader media, events and speechwriting services area to support media engagement on the Government's infrastructure, transport, regional development, communications and arts policy agenda.


The successful applicant will be a driven person with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills who is capable of leading other communication professionals to deliver positive outcomes in both proactive and reactive environments.


Attention to detail and proven high level organisational and time management skills are critical to this role, including the ability to manage and motivate your team to deliver high quality media engagement products within a high-pressure environment.

You will work directly with high profile Ministerial offices to develop media engagement strategies for programs, policies, and initiatives benefiting all Australians.


What will you do?

Reporting to the Director, you will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders - including portfolio ministerial officers and senior departmental staff - to achieve positive outcomes within the media.

You will manage a range of daily activities including assessing the media environment and providing advice to key stakeholders on emerging issues.

You will contribute to strategic communications activities to raise public awareness of the department's programs and projects.

Finally, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the team's strong, positive working culture to build an inclusive, supportive and rewarding working environment.


Key duties include:

  • Managing a team of professional communication staff to deliver quality, timely media engagement materials, services and advice to portfolio Ministerial Offices and department staff.
  • Coordinating responses and developing messaging to media.
  • Cultivating productive working relationships within Ministerial Offices and throughout the Department to successfully deliver media engagement activities.
  • Producing proactive and reactive media engagement strategies.
