The Early Childhood Outcomes division is leading once in a generation improvements to early childhood education and care in NSW.

New reforms will reduce costs for parents, increase accessibility to child care places and improve child outcomes through universal pre-Kindergarten.

To support the design and delivery of service and system design we are recruiting a Design Manager and Senior Service Designer.


Manager, Design


The Manager, Design is responsible for leading the design and delivery of complex service and system design work in a collaborative and agile way to support the government's Universal Pre-Kindergarten commitment and wider early childcare education reforms.

The role leads projects and colleagues to collaboratively progress system and service design, project delivery and improvement in tight timeframes.


Key functions of the two roles will include:

  • Experience leading teams to create service design outputs and use them to facilitate understanding and change within organisations
  • Lead/manage service design activities, challenge established thinking, and develop new approaches to complex early childhood education design problems
  • Support projects to have a human centred design approach
  • Support colleague's development in design capabilities including creating a culture in which colleagues can grow their design skills.
  • Manage the design and evaluation of service and systems models in collaboration with communities, families, early childhood educators and teachers, service providers and colleagues in the Department.
  • Undertake culturally appropriate, trauma informed and ethical research with families, teachers and educators to gather appropriate data and insights to support the future design of service and systems and identify challenges and opportunities for improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external networks to support the team's goals
  • Visually communicate service design options including journey maps and service system blueprints or maps

  • Highlevel planning, organisational and coordination skills.

  • Selfdirected and highly motivated.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication experience.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment and resilience in the face of shifting priorities.

Key knowledge and experience

Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's
Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the
Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
