About the Role:

As the Environmental Technician, you will work on water management projects from conception and planning to implementation and completion. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of water/wastewater treatment processes to assist in the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and adjustment.


Position Description:


Key Accountabilities:


  • Analyse and interpret water quality data and characteristics to develop reports, specifications, and associated documentation
  • Install/maintain water treatment system components (dosing pumps, monitoring controllers, water quality monitoring probes, and chemical transfers) in line with environmental and legislative requirements
  • Prepare water treatment equipment for hire and complete general maintenance of systems
  • Identify project risks and provide recommendations to eliminate the risk to the project delivery team prior to acceptance
  • Monitoring programs for groundwater, surface water and treatment system process water
  • Bench/Jar testing of raw water samples to determine treatment chemicals and process
  • Calculating/forecasting chemical dosing rates and usage
  • Collaborate in the development of water treatment designs and groundwater table management (including pump systems and pipe networks)
  • Understanding the specific needs of the customer and collaborating as part of a team to develop appropriate technologies to deliver required outcomes

Skills/ Selection Criteria (qualifications & experience):

Essential

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification/s (Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, Engineering in Chemical, Environmental Engineering or related field)
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental consulting/engineering (focus in environmental remediation/water treatment would be advantageous)
  • Groundwater sampling, field water quality monitoring equipment, lab sample preparation/collection and bench/jar testing
  • Strong chemical and mechanical understanding i.e., water chemistry, process engineering, heat transfer, fluids, thermodynamics, strength of materials, material sciences
  • Design and operation of water treatment equipment involving chemical dosing, ion exchange, adsorption, filtration, and automated control systems
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills
  • Mechanical or Electrical & control system aptitude
  • Awareness and understanding of current environmental issues and legislative requirements to maintain compliance with State, Federal and local laws, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes
  • Ability to troubleshoot/problem solve and work with flexibility and initiative

Desirable

  • Experience in the Rental, Mining, Construction or Heavy industries would be advantageous
  • Relevant trade experience (such as chemical, water, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and or laboratory work)
  • Construction white Card
