Clinical Coder

About the Role:


You will be coding patient records using the current version of ICD-10-AM in line with the Australian Coding Standards as well as correcting clinical coding errors, queries and quality indicators (PICQ), as directed.

This is an opportunity to work for the largest local health district in NSW which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast areas.

John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District.

HNELHD has strong, innovative connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.

You will be joining a small team of dedicated Clinical Coders at Jonh Hunter Hospital.

  • We code records for John Hunter, Belmont and Tomaree HospitalsOn commencement you will be provided with a combination of facetoface and online training.

About you:


  • Are you an experienced Clinical Coder looking to join a cohesive and dynamic team.
  • You will be dedicated, hardworking with excellent attention to detail.
  • You will have demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using IC10 AM & ACHI and thorough understanding of Australian Coding Standards with competent keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Windows programs.

Requirements:

Clinical Coder (Administration Officer Level 5)
  • Successful completion of a recognised ICD10AM & ACHI and Australian Coding Standards coding qualification.

Senior Clinical Coder (Administration Officer Level 6)
  • Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding course and willingness to undertake an Advanced qualification or have experience across a broad range of specialties.

Senior Advanced Clinical Coder (Health Manager Level 1)
  • Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding course at an Advanced level or extensive experience across a broad range of specialties or relevant tertiary qualification in Health Information Management.
  • A skills test will be undertaken at interview to gauge coding level and grading level of the applicant.

Remote clinical coding may be considered for Senior Clinical Coders/HIM with extensive coding experience, 5+ years at tertiary hospital level within Australia, located in NSW.
