The following objectives for a Technical Officer at the classification level of TGO 1 are as follows:

  • To perform routine diagnostic laboratory functions, e.g. specimen reception, maintain laboratory supplies, undertake routine diagnostic laboratory investigations (automated and manual), preliminary evaluation of associated results and data processing associated with diagnostic tests, dispatch of specimens, blood and blood products.
  • Activities at this level may be undertaken on an individual basis or in a team and will include a requirement to exercise knowledge.
  • Participate in technical project work which requires a level of applied knowledge and skill, which can be gained by experience.

Essential Requirements:


  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC)
  • Working With Children Check (DHS)
  • Technical capabilities in working in a diagnostic laboratory.
  • Understanding of a pathology service in general
  • Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description.
