Responsibilities:


  • Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers and service providers (including both government and nongovernment agencies) to support the cultural needs of children and families to achieve their identified case plan goals and
cultural support plan goals.

  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including children and parents, families and Recognised Entities to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family, community, country and culture.
  • Provide high quality cultural advice and direction to assist in informing decisions about the safety needs of children, particularly where complex child protection worries are present.
  • Participate effectively and provide cultural leadership in a multidisciplinary team to deliver wellplanned and culturally appropriate family support services to children and families experiencing vulnerability.
  • Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements.
  • Contribute to strengthening workforce cultural capability through sharing your cultural advice, knowledge of communities, and awareness of culturally significant processes and events.
Reporting relationships

  • This role reports to the Manager of the child safety service centre.
  • The nature of regional service delivery requires that close collaborative relationships will also be established with nongovernment organisations and other government agencies within the community and broader region.
  • This role is an authorised officer under the Child Protection Act 1999 and has a range of statutory delegations (where applicable).
It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.
