Consultant - Accounting, and Financial and Operational GRC

06th May, 2024

Are you ready to connect with your true potential?
Potential. At Nexia Australia, we don't just talk about it. We nurture it. Cultivate it. Unlock it. We bring it to life, not just for you, but with you. That's the promise we make to our clients, and it's the same promise we make to our people.

We do this because we believe in pushing the boundaries of personal potential and helping our people leave their mark on the world.

While we're in the business of accountancy and advice, we're actually in the business of people - because we believe that when great people are aligned, great things happen.

We are incredibly proud of our values-based culture - which prioritises our values over profit margins to make a positive impact.

Current opportunity

We have roles at various experience levels for consultants specialising in the provision of accounting and financial & operational GRC services.

Based in our Canberra CBD office, you will be surrounded by specialists with technical expertise and receive high-quality training and solid support to propel your career.

The types of services you will provide can broadly be described as financial and management accounting services, with the addition of internal audit assurance engagements, and you will advise clients in the improvement of processes and risk management/compliance frameworks.

These roles will suit people who enjoy variety and take pride in developing and implementing bespoke solutions, as we do not work in a repetitive 'cookie-cutter' environment.

Although at times challenging, due to the "how do we approach this?" mindset needed in consulting, these roles are highly rewarding in terms of job satisfaction, personal growth, and the opportunity to grow your income by cementing yourself as an essential and well-respected member of the Firm.

The role

  • Financial account preparation, reporting, reconciliations, and account remediation work;
  • Budgeting, forecasting and costing exercises;
  • Accounting and payroll systems design, integration and diagnosis;
  • Internal audit engagements, particularly those pertaining to accounting and payroll cycles, and general compliance processes; and
  • Preparation and documentation of written procedures and process mapping.
The right person will also be introduced to, and trained in:

  • The preparation of specialist accountant reports including business valuations, economic loss and forensic accounting reports; and
  • A variety of advisory techniques including Business & Strategic Planning and Business Continuity Planning.
Expectations of the role will reflect the stage at which you are in your career, and will increase over time in the following key areas:

  • Maintaining regular contact with clients and prospects, and actively identifying opportunities to improve their businesses with value-added solutions;
  • Scoping engagements commensurate with each clients' planned level of investment and producing high quality tender and proposal documents; and
  • Independently planning, executing, and communicating the results of engagements whilst completing them on time and within approved budgets.

About you

You are a professional with practical experience spanning financial management and corporate services functions, including the maintenance of accounting and payroll systems as typically implemented by SMEs.

A curious, lifelong learner, you will have five to ten years' experience at a senior level in auditing or accounting.

Your experience does not necessarily have to be within a Chartered Accounting environment, however we expect you to be equally at home working independently and as part of a team.

You will have excellent listening, comprehension and verbal communication skills, and possess the ability to 'hone in' on the real issues in succinct, informative reports that identify opportunities for clients to implement meaningful change.

A Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related discipline is required, and membership of CAANZ or CPA Australia is highly desirable.

A self-starter, you will have a highly developed sense of commercial acumen and will be able to proactively and independently advance your projects.
