The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) recognises the enormous value a clean environment, innovative society and economy, and vibrant culture makes to Queenslanders' lives.

As a diverse organisation, the department brings together environment, heritage protection, national parks, science and youth affairs functions to help achieve government objectives for a better Queensland.

The Chemistry Centre provides accredited analyses of water, soil, sediment, biota and plant samples to support Government projects and decision making for agricultural, environmental and resource management outcomes.

We advise on analytical methods, sampling techniques and the interpretation of results.

The Chemistry Centre's core areas of expertise are:
analytical chemistry, water chemistry, soil chemistry, sediment geochemistry and environmental tracing.
We're looking for the best suited applicant for the role.

We'll do this by assessing your eligibility and your suitability to undertake the requirements of the role (including, where relevant, the way you carried out previous roles).

To be successful in this position you must have:

  • A minimum qualification of Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Science/Chemistry, or Applied Chemistry or agreed equivalent,
  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical chemistry procedures pertaining to the assessment of Soil, water, plants and sediment samples in a NATA accredited laboratory (experience gained in commercial analytical laboratory is advantageous).
  • Demonstrated experience in operating analytical instruments (such as ICPOES, segmented flow analysers, spectrometers and Carbon/nitrogen analysers) with high competency in sample preparations, troubleshooting and faultfinding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment and to contribute to maintaining a high quality, timely and efficient laboratory operations.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills with ability to follow work plans and see tasks through to completion.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of databases as well as laboratory information Management System, statistical and wordprocessing software.
