Your team
You will be joining the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability team.

Our job is to tell Great Southern Bank's story, protect our brand and reputation and lead the Bank's sustainability and community programs.

We work with teams across the Bank to clearly communicate our purpose, support and success in helping Australians achieve home ownership - whether it's to our people, our customers, community partners, industry bodies, government or media.


This role will be based in our Brisbane head office and is a max term contract until March 2025.


The Sustainability Manager works with the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability to lead the implementation of Great Southern Bank's Sustainability Strategy.

The Sustainability Manager will lead the delivery of Great Southern Bank's key sustainability projects including but not limited to the United Nations Global Compact, B Corp, social impact framework, flagship community partnership, Reconciliation Action Plan, Financial Inclusion Action Plan, Climate Action Plan and the Climate-Related Financial Disclosure.


Your responsibilities
Your role is responsible for leading Great Southern Bank's sustainability strategic vision and ambition.

This involves maintaining a wide range of projects and relationships internally and externally with the goal of demonstrating we are a socially and environmental responsible business to our customers, team members, communities, investors, industry and other key stakeholders.


  • Strategy
  • Implement (and refresh if needed) Great Southern Bank's Sustainability Strategy, tailoring in response to changing internal and external conditions in close coordination with the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.


  • Relationships

  • Champion internal and external engagement at all levels, including the Board, to support ongoing focus on sustainability, ensuring that opportunities for aligned impact and recognition are realised and risks are managed.


  • Leverage

  • Support leverage of sustainability projects to ensure that value is generated through communications, PR activity, marketing and sponsorship


  • Reporting

  • Lead ESG reporting and disclosures including UN Global Compact, B Corp, Climate-Related Financial Disclosure, Climate Active certification, Reconciliation Action Plan, and Financial Inclusion Action Plan.


  • Governance

  • Maintain effective governance processes to ensure activities are appropriately delivered in line with public commitments, Great Southern Bank policies and procedures and risk appetite.

Your experience

  • 5+ years of demonstrated track record of management and delivery of social and environmental impact/sustainability strategies and projects in commercial and/or notforprofit environments.
  • Detailed knowledge and appreciation of current social and environmental issues and trends in Australia and globally, and how to integrate this in a commercial context that builds credibility for the organisation.
  • Proven ability to build positive, enduring relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including Board, both internal and external ability and to lead stakeholders on a sustainability journey.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and delivering against key global and Australian ESG frameworks and methodologies e.g. International Sustainability Standards Board, Global Reporting Initiative, B Corp, UN Global Compact, limate Active Certification, TCFD, RAP, FIAP.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to prepare high standard Board and Executive papers, external reports and documents for investors, regulators and other important audiences, and lead training and facilitate workshops.
  • Demonstrated decisionmaking within business parameters including risk frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and learning.
  • Experience of working within the financial services industry desirable.

Your qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, communications, sustainability, environmental science, natural resource management or related field is essential.
