An opportunity exists for a Legal Support Manager to join our Legal Support team in Sydney.

AGS delivers expert legal services to Commonwealth clients across a wide range of areas including dispute resolution, commercial law and constitutional and public law.

The Sydney Legal Support Manager plays a critical leadership role in leading and developing our Sydney legal support team which comprises approximately 20 staff who provide legal administrative support to over 100 lawyers.


As the manager of the Sydney legal support team, you will work closely with the National Coordinator, Legal Support, National Managers and other senior leaders to supervise, develop and manage support resources.


The Sydney Legal Support Manager is supported by, and works closely with, Senior Legal Assistants who have specialist expertise and assist with day-to-day management of work across the office.


In this role you will:
- manage a dynamic team which provides high quality legal support services in a professional environment across a range of legal areas
- be responsible for developing, recruiting and mentoring legal support
- ensure processes and administrative workflows are nationally consistent and identify areas for innovation
- provide high quality legal or administrative assistance to lawyers and/or senior management as and when required
- support and work closely with a team of legal support managers across AGS to ensure the effective provision of legal support services across the AGS group
- champion and support new systems, practices and processes.

About you
This role will suit an experienced and highly efficient professional manager who ideally has:

  • leadership, training, development and recruitment experience
- excellent client service skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage key relationships with internal and external clients
- capacity to think strategically about, and direct continuous improvement in, the provision of legal support
- demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and to operate effectively in a hybrid environment
- advanced technical skills in Microsoft Office suite as well as legal practice software systems such as Mattersphere, Elite and iManage
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- the flexibility and willingness to undertake a variety of tasks to meet client deadlines and business needs.


Previous experience providing high quality legal support to multiple lawyers in a fast-paced legal practice would be highly desirable for this role.
