Phd Scholarship in Disability, Technology and - Clayton, Australia - Monash University
Description
The Opportunity
This PhD scholarship is funded as part of an establishment grant for the Monash Assistive Technology and Society Centre.
The MATS Centre helps people living with disabilities to lead self-directed lives.
Emerging technologies have the potential to break down many of the barriers people with disabilities face at school, university, work and in the social sphere.
Our work is guided by on-the-ground partnerships with the community to ensure we're addressing real problems faced by real people - creating a lasting impact.
This PhD project will explore an area of research focus within MATS.The precise details of the PhD project are open to negotiation, but it must consider the contemporary experiences of people with a disability and be designed with the aim of making a positive difference to their life experience.
Projects should fall into one (or more) of the following themes:- Disability and Technology, including use of bespoke and/or mainstream technology for disability inclusion and/or barriers to access
- Disability and Education, including experience using technological and other aids in the classroom, barriers to participation and the particular challenges of making STEM education more accessible to students with a disability
- Disability and Work, including experience using technological and other aids in the workplace, barriers to participation and the particular challenges of making STEM careers more accessible to people with a disability
The proposed project may focus on the experience of people with disability in Australia or other parts of the world where the student and/or supervisory team have strong links to relevant disability communities.
We have a strong and supportive research culture, led by internationally recognised scholars successful in attracting national and international competitive funding.
In its assessment, the selection committee will prioritise applicants who hold an Australian (or equivalent international) Honour's or Master's degree (both in a relevant field), with a significant research component and with first-class honours/H1 awarded.
Scholarship holders must normally be enrolled full-time, but those with a disability/health condition that precludes full-time enrolment can be considered for part-time enrolment.
Please note:
Applicants who already hold a PhD will not be considered.
The successful applicant will be expected to enrol by
December 2023. However, there may be some flexibility as to the date of commencement.
