About Us:

The Emergency Department at Northern Health is a large, vibrant and fast-paced workplace. We employ a diverse, driven group of doctors, nurses, allied health and clerical staff.

We promote a strong culture of teamwork and adopt the principle that we are all part of a large work family who support and respect each other.

We are only 30 minutes from the Melbourne city, you will find that the northern corridor is an affordable and rapidly expanding area that many of our doctors live in and enjoy the plethora of dining and entertainment options.

The role:

We promote internal growth and frequently have doctors transitioning from HMO to junior ED Registrar via our vibrant resident to Registrar (r2R) programme.

Should you be interested in a career in Emergency Medicine, our Directors of Emergency Medicine Training would be happy to speak with you about the options available for ACEM training at the Northern.

We have a weekly HMO Education Program at The Northern run by a dedicated ED Consultant.
Topics recently covered include ultrasound and ECG interpretation. There is also a Case of the Week disseminated via the ED HMO WhatsApp group to enhance your learning.

There are opportunities weekly to be involved in simulation program on the ED floor, giving you the opportunity to develop skills that are required to work as part of a cohesive team.

Simulations run weekly and are accompanied with a de-brief and written review with recommendations.

Our ED Ultrasound Faculty offer dedicated training slots that will ensure you can build on your ultrasound experience, as well as giving you access to experienced ultrasound clinicians that can guide you through the CCPU process and accredit your scans, we currently have 3 ultrasound machines.

There are ample opportunities to be involved in quality improvement projects which will integrate you within the department.

There are opportunities within our Quality team and APT (Addiction Psychiatry and Toxicology) team to be involved in audits and research projects to bolster your CVs.

We have a strong leadership structure and involved Junior Medical Workforce to ensure rosters are fair as we actively promote clinician well-being and self-care.
