Closing Date: 10/12/2023- Job Type: Permanent - Full Time- Location: Newcastle West- Job Category: Education, Childcare & TrainingThe Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is currently seeking a Permanent Full-Time Education Officer - Gifted Education to join the team in 2024.


The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 21,000 students in 44 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, one K-12 school, one flexible learning centre and one special school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.


The Education Officer - Gifted Education aims to:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of high potential gifted education programs and provisions across the diocese.
  • Establish policies and procedures in support of high potential gifted education.
  • Implement initiatives and recommendations.
  • Disseminate information and facilitate professional learning for teachers and leaders to ensure high potential gifted education is embedded in curriculum delivery across the diocese.
  • Advocate for high potential gifted education students according to evidencebased practice.
  • Work with the Assistant Head of Learning and Wellbeing, Leader of School Learning and Wellbeing and other Education Officers, in addressing the needs of high potential gifted education in the diocese.

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure a Catholic perspective across the curriculum.
  • Possesses sound knowledge of the scope of curriculum from K1
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how high potential gifted education programs and provisions can be embedded in the curriculum.
  • Demonstrates clear passion for the education of high potential gifted students, with an understanding of how they learn.
  • Experience in initiating strategies and leading, in consultation with other colleagues (K12), the implementation of sustainable high potential gifted education programs and provisions.
  • Models and shares an understanding of current research in high potential gifted education and how this applies to the learning needs of students.
  • Demonstrates the ability to facilitate professional learning and to access specialist knowledge and support for students and teachers in the field of high potential gifted education.
  • Experience in developing the capacity of teachers and leaders in high potential gifted education.
  • Willingness to comply with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy Category C
  • Accreditation for Leadership
  • Experience in a formal leadership position in a school (desirable).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualifications as a fouryear trained teacher
  • Postgraduate qualifications in education, gifted education, or educational leadership (desirable)
  • At least 10 years teaching experience
  • Active NESA Accreditation
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number.
  • Current NSW Driver's License
  • Completion of anaphylaxis training

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary is in accordance with Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019.
