Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position


The network consists of nine branches which are a key frontline service in the community for local residents, students, visitors, tourists and workers.

The primary purpose of the position is to connect Library visitors and users with information, literacy, technology, spaces and lifelong learning.

The Library Assistant provides exceptional customer experience to all Library visitors and users.

This role supports the implementation of innovative collections, trend-setting digital resources, interactive library services, creative learning programs and welcoming spaces.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities


Library Assistant will be required to work front of house in different locations and work flexibly to support opening hours, operations and programs.


The position responsibilities include:

Maintain a supporting and positive work environment through teamwork and sharing knowledge.
Deliver exceptional customer experience using good judgment to identify, address and/or refer diverse customer needs as a priority.
Utilise sound interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills to address basic customer enquiries and provide alternative resources.
Understand and promote the Library's Quality Standards and procedures through demonstrated customer service and continuous improvement.
Deliver accurate and timely circulation services, re-shelve returned library materials and undertake regular block shelf checking and shelf tidying.
Provide basic troubleshooting and demonstrate consumer and library technology to customers.
Support and promote physical and digital resources through community feedback and engagement.

Assist in the delivery of Library services and programs, including technology, collections and Adult, Children's, Youth, Outreach and IT programs.

Provide efficient and customer-focused collections support, home library services, library administration and deliveries across the network.
Collaborate with others through participating in cross-functional working groups, project groups and joint programs.

Keep up to date with City and Library policies, procedures and guidelines, especially cash handling procedures and maintaining accurate financial records.


NOTE:

Previous experience within a library space would be ideal though not essential and having experience within a bookstore would be advantageous.


Hours of work will be Mon to Thurs: 10am - 6pm, and Saturday: 9.30am - 4pm, 36.25 hours per week.
