The Program Manager will facilitate the delivery of IT projects according to UNSW's project management and architectural frameworks, delivering high-quality IT services that optimise operating costs over the life of the infrastructure.


The incumbent will be responsible for delivering the Universities' Service Asset and Configuration Management capability for technology Assets that is aligned to the overarching IT Strategy.

The Program Manager will draw on their extensive industry experience and Service Management knowledge to contribute to design and effective delivery of high-quality services program, that supports the financial and operational sustainability for the Universities Technology Estate.

The role of Program Manager reports to the Head of Infrastructure Projects and has no direct reports.


Responsibilities

  • Lead various IT project teams to deliver multiple projects in a costeffective manner with high customer focus.
  • Act as a point of contact and point of escalation for all program stakeholders and other business units.
  • Lead the development and delivery of an infrastructure program, on time and within budget, identifying interdependencies and leveraging resources to maximize efficiencies and achieve required organization outcomes.
  • Work with the Head of Infrastructure Projects and the IT PMO to develop and implement strategies and tools for the continuous monitoring and evaluation of projects, including risk and contingency management, benefits realization, and project impact and quality measures, to identify and address issues and assess project progress and overall effectiveness.
  • Provide expert advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues and implement recommendations to support project delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy objectives and other project priorities.
  • Create and manage large project budgets, report on budget variances and ensuring budget is on track.
  • Maintain collaboration with the IT PPMO to ensure adherence to the defined project delivery framework and is aligned to project processes and lifecycle governance.
  • Manage project resources within budget and maintain financial forecasting for IT PPMO and UPO monthly reporting purposes.
  • Identify, manage and resolve business risk, issues and conflicts for projects, develop issue resolution protocols to deal effectively with these matters and maintaining relevant risk registers.
  • In consultation with Business IT Services, develop and manage vendor contracts / agreements associated with projects.
  • Build collaborative relationships with senior and executive stakeholders across IT and Estate Management to establish effective communication strategies, ensuring open and timely communications at all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and adherence to infrastructure policies, procedures and other documentation as required in the delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • Lead the implementation of solutions that support a stable and robust passive infrastructure environment.
  • Lead project reporting on budget, schedule, risks, and issues, change requests and other factors contributing to status updates.
  • Mentor project members, providing coaching and day to day guidance.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of consultants and contractors to achieve continuous improvement in project delivery.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety.

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary ITSM processes and practices.
  • Experience implementing ITSM processes including Asset and Configuration Management.
  • Prior experience establishing a Service Management capability.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in similar roles, with substantial proven experience in programs and/or Project Management of which 5 years has been in a management role.
