The role of First Nations Community Engagement Specialist (Indigenous Identified) is accountable for the delivery of WorkCover's First Nations Strategy in partnership with other business areas.

You'll play a pivotal role in inspiring our customers and stakeholders to support First Nations people, as well as fostering positive relationships and promoting collaboration between WorkCover Queensland and First Nations communities within the workers' compensation ecosystem and the wider community.


You'll also contribute to**:


  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive stakeholder and community engagement strategy with First Nations communities, organisations, and leaders.
  • Liaising between WorkCover and First Nations stakeholders, ensuring communication, consultation and collaboration on relevant initiatives, programs and policies
  • Building productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver and integrate First Nations perspectives, knowledge and practices into business processes, policies, and initiatives.
  • Organising and facilitating community meetings, workshops and events to gather feedback, address concerns, and codesign solutions that promote health, safety and wellbeing of First Nations people.

A Bit About You:


  • Hold qualifications and a proven background in indigenous studies, social work, community development or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience working in community engagement, relationship building, or advocacy roles with a focus on First Nations issues and populations.
  • An excellent understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, leveraging lived experiences to effectively guide and shape cultural capability, design and delivery of programs and initiatives.
  • Strong skills in handling and influencing diverse stakeholder relationships, coupled with the ability to develop and implement strategic plans, initiatives and projects.


As an identified position, part of this role will involve significant interaction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their representatives across Queensland.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander society.
