The Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) seeks a talented researcher to conduct collaborative research on the health economy that will impact public policy debate.


  • Appointment Type: Fulltime, 3years fixed term.
  • Location: Macquarie University Wallumattagul Campus (North Ryde)

THE ROLE


A key component of the role will be undertaking research in mental health, aged care, integrated care and health care financing.

You will be encouraged to publish in leading academic journals and conduct research funded by competitive academic grants and by government and non-government organisations.


This role offers excellent opportunities to develop and strengthen sophisticated skills in preference elicitation, policy evaluation, and econometrics, along with project management and external network development.


We actively promote career development, mentor staff, provide training and further education, and offer generous opportunities for domestic and international travel to academic conferences.

About You


You will have a demonstrated track record in conducting economic research, a strong research interest in the health and aged care sector, and an interest in collaborating with other academics on Category 1 grant funded research and undertaking research for government and non-government organisations.

About Us

MUCHE is one of Australia's leading applied health economics research centres. It sits within the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) and Macquarie Business School.

The AIHI is the largest health services research institute in Australia and one of the largest of its kind internationally, with close to 200 staff.

The AIHI also includes the Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science, the Centre for Health Informatics, and the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research.

To Apply

  • Essential selection criteria:_
  • PhD (awarded or submitted) in economics or similar quantitative field with strong results.
  • Evidence of developing a research portfolio.
  • Demonstrated willingness to undertake research across a range of topic areas.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability in undertaking research independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.


Experience in primary data collection (surveys, interviews, and focus groups) and discrete choice experiments is highly desirable but not an essential selection criterion.
