$73,842 gross per annum plus 11% superannuation
Full Time, Fixed Term for 2 years


The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking an Exhibitions and Collections Technician who will be responsible for the safe movement, handling, installation/de-installation, lighting, and packing/unpacking of a broad range of art works for exhibitions, collection displays, and collection management activities.


ABOUT THE POSITION:
You will install and fit out a range of display support material which may include display cases; cabinets; furniture and fittings; joinery; aduiovisual equipment; lighting; signage and graphics


Other key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and leading teams of Assistant Exhibition & Collection Technicians in a range of art handling and installation duties.
  • Inspecting all works of art prior to handling and reporting any suspected damage or deterioration in condition.
  • Performing maintenance and general housekeeping of galleries and storage areas to ensure all areas are kept in order and are cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Accurately recording the movement of works of art on location tracking documentation.
  • Installing and fitting out a range of display support material which may include display cases, cabinets, furniture and fittings, joinery, audio visual equipment, lighting, signage and graphics.


You can identify processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, identifying more and less critical activities and operating accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required.

You recognise barriers and seek all relevant information to identify and propose workable solutions to deal with them effectively. You are proactive and self-starting, taking responsibility for your own actions.

You demonstrate capacity for sustained effort and hard work, completing tasks to deadlines and with a high attention to detail.
