The Role


The Internal Audit team provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve Great Southern Bank Group's operations.

The internal audit activity helps the Great Southern Bank Group accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management and control processes.


Reporting to the Senior Audit Manager, the Internal Audit Manager is responsible for leading reviews as part of the Internal Audit Plan and support the Senior Audit Manager and Head of Internal Audit in achieving the Internal Audit strategy.

You will lead and deliver risk based internal audit work including scoping, execution and delivery of audits and advisory assignments.

You will work with senior stakeholders including Senior Leaders and at times support the Head of Audit in reporting to Board Audit Committees.

You will lead and coach other members of the Internal Audit team in completing audit work and support their career development.

This is a full-time position based in the Brisbane CBD head office or Sydney office.


Your responsibilities

  • You deliver risk based internal audit work including scoping, execution and delivery of internal audits and advisory work. You will complete risk and control assessments of key business processes and ensure internal controls are designed and operating effectively. You provide advice and assistance in developing appropriate actions to mitigate identified risks.
  • You collaborate with cosource partners and external auditors on matters relating to audit work, and complete peer reviews of audit assignments as required.
  • You contribute to the development of a multiyear risk based internal audit plan on a rolling basis.
  • You build and foster strong working relationships with stakeholders across our business.
  • You are responsible for creating a culture of exceptional service, teamwork, commitment to excellence and a professional ethic that enables the achievement of team and organisational objectives.

Your experience

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in a similar role within the financial or professional services industry
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, including effective people development, team leadership and an ability to motivate staff and effectively manage a team.
  • Substantial experience in auditing, with financial services experience and working knowledge of risk management frameworks and standards in particular valued.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders.
  • Effective communication, reporting and presentation skills suitable for Board and Executive level stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage, communicate and build support with senior business leaders and other key stakeholders.

Your qualifications

  • Degree qualification in accounting, finance, IT or a related field
  • Relevant qualifications from professional bodies (or studying towards) such as CPA, CA, CIA or IIA
