Policy Officer

Applications are sought for a fixed term Policy Officer in the Higher Education Policy and Governance Unit in the Department of Education and Training.

The role is available on a fixed term basis to the end of November 2023 and is located in the Higher Education and Workforce Division within the Higher Education and Skills group.

The Higher Education Policy and Governance Unit leads on higher education policy matters and supports the Minister for Higher Education to fulfill their governance responsibilities in relation to Victorian universities.

This includes government appointments to university councils and tabling of annual reports in Parliament. The Unit also supports regular engagement between the Minister and senior Department officials with Victorian Vice-Chancellors. This work involves regular interactions with stakeholders across government and in the higher education sector, including with Victorian universities.

In this role you will contribute to the development of policy analysis and advice on higher education policy and governance matters and undertake project management to deliver key priorities.

You will be required to take a close interest in and keep up to date with issues facing the higher education sector and to engage directly with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to build effective working relationships.

You will also support the Minister and senior Department officials in their engagement on higher education policy and governance matters, including through briefings and correspondence.

You will be able to work independently and with others, working collaboratively and contributing to a positive and supportive team culture.

An ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic and responsive work environment will be critical.

You will be expected to demonstrate initiative and find solutions to problems, and to work flexibly to support priorities across the wider team as required.

For this role, you are required to submit proof of full vaccination as part of the recruitment process and prior to commencement employment.
