About The Opportunity
Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for an Unaccredited or Accredited Trainee to complement and enhance the current Palliative Care Department.

This position would be suitable for a trainee who has an interest in palliative care and/or is already on the training program.

The position entails working in the Palliative Care Consult team at Liverpool Hospital.

Where You'll Be Working


Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area.

It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.


The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment.

The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.


Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

What you'll be doing
To provide an opportunity to undertake training in Palliative Medicine within a specialist palliative care service.

The Trainee in Palliative Medicine will provide quality healthcare to patients under supervision, while developing a broad knowledge of the principles and practice of palliative medicine and a satisfactory level of competence in palliative medicine as required for Training.

This position will have supervision from specialist medical staff. This position is accredited for Training in Palliative Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

It would also be suitable for Trainees wishing to gain further experience in Palliative medicine, and would suit those from a General Medical, Oncology, Pain Medicine and General Practice background.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia

  • Previous experience working in Palliative Care. If no previous experience, an interest in gaining skills and knowledge in Palliative Medicine
  • Completed at least four years residency since graduation
  • Current Drivers license
  • Proven satisfactory clinical performance, supported by submissions of two current referees
  • Demonstrated sound, effective communication skills with patients, medical and surgical colleagues and other staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development
  • A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after
- hours and on-call rosters and the required rotations both between services and geographical location to deliver patient care (including rural locations if applicable to the stream)

  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
