Division Responsibilities
The Legal and Assurance Division is part of the Department of Health and Aged Care's

Corporate Operations Group. The division provides support to the department through the

provision of a range of legal, assurance, project, and risk management services. Legal and

Assurance Division comprises the following branches:

  • Corporate Assurance Branch
  • Legal Advice & Legislation Branch
  • Corporate, Commercial & Litigation Branch

Branch Responsibilities
The Corporate Assurance Branch provides professional business, project and assurance

services to the department and Senior Executive and is responsible for shaping

departmental corporate, business planning and project management approaches. The

branch also supports the department by monitoring Health and Aged Care's portfolio of

high-risk change projects, developing and enhancing its Risk Management Framework,

delivering value-add internal audit services, and liaising with the Commonwealth

Ombudsman and Australian National Audit Office.


Section Responsibilities
The Portfolio Support Unit Section is responsible for providing both guidance and oversight

across the department's project management activities. As a trusted advisor across the

department, the section is responsible for engaging with stakeholders at all levels,

particularly senior executives, to provide advice, guidance and support in ensuring delivery

against outcomes.

Key functions of the section include:

  • Tracking analysis and review of the department's portfolio of projects and
commitments

  • Engaging with Senior Responsible Owners and project managers on highrisk projects
and providing advice and support as required

  • Developing and implementing the department's Project Management Framework
  • Building project management capability
  • Providing support and continuous improvement of the department's project and
commitment reporting system

  • Supporting the effective operation of senior governance committees through the
provision of exceptional secretariat services***
Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities are to:

  • Maintain productive working relationships to support the implementation of
consistent project management practices, processes and tools to drive and facilitate

the successful delivery of projects by business areas within the department.

  • Support the work of other team members, including ensuring the quality of written
work is of a very high standard.

  • Supporting the development and updating of frameworks and guidance
documentation

  • Contribute to the analysis of project reporting to inform a departmentwide view for
senior governance committees and other stakeholders.


Key Capabilities

Key capabilities are:

  • Experience delivering support and services to projects, either through a formal
project management office or through a project support role.

  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask and work independently, with a
focus on meeting given timeframes and to a high quality.

  • Ability to manage competing deadlines/priorities and provide timely advice.
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to coordinate and develop materials for
senior executives under the direction of a supervisor.

  • Ability to analyse information and formulate it into relevant reports for senior
executives, actively identify issues or trends and understand departmental and

stakeholder requirements to support project deliveries.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and ability to build
productive working relationships in a team environment.
