PENSION TRANSFER SPECIALIST
bdhSterling Pty Ltd is a global entity specialising in cross border solutions for the migration of UK Pension Funds.


bdhSterling Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced UK Pension Transfer Specialist (PTS) for our Australian offices in delivering pension transfer advice to its Australian based client bank and managing business to business relationships.

Responsibilities and main duties

  • Meet with new and existing clients via phone and facetoface, to understand their financial status in both Australia and the UK particularly with regard to whether bdhSterling Pty Ltd can assist with transferring the UK pension to Australia.
  • Understand and analyse Defined Benefit schemes, their specific features and the benefits that they provide.
  • Analyse the financial requirements of the client and researching strategies for consolidating finances in Australia.
  • Assess the tax issues that are involved with the complexity of bringing UK pensions to Australia
  • Fully assess both 'harder' and 'softer' facts when considering a client's situation
  • Ensure that any advice to transfer is in line with the client's attitude to risk.
  • Sign off on completed suitability reports, ensuring that they consider the client's wider circumstances, and present to clients and their advisers.
  • Providing technical updates in UK pension plans to clients and advisers in both the UK and Australia to ensure that transactions brokered for the clients are current and effective.
  • If in the clients best interest, broker the transaction of bringing UK pensions to Australia in the most tax efficient way, in line with both the UK and Australia regulations, and handing the client back to the external adviser
  • Organising the purchase and sale of currencies for external advisers and their clients
  • Provide ongoing advice in respect of client's UK Pension funds whilst phased transfers are completed, within Australian transfer limits, across multiple tax years.
  • Present at Professional Developments days of affiliated AFSL firms.
  • Provide advice and be knowledgeable in the following areas:
  • Pensions
  • Investment
  • Wealth Protection
  • Retirement Planning
  • Cash Flow & Liability Management
  • Risk Management & Insurance Planning
  • Nurture and manage Referral Partners that you are designated to or associated with you.
  • Keep up to date, compliant and knowledgeable on current finance sources, techniques, products, legislation, qualifications and attend courses required by bdhSterling and/or the industry.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed, including (but not limited to) Fact Find, Risk Profile, Fee Proposal and File Notes
  • At all times the PTS is to work within the boundaries of their Employment Agreement, and all policies and procedures of bdhSterling.
  • All investment advice given must be in accordance with the firm's Part 4A permissions relating to investment.
  • The firm embraces the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principle that a firm 'must pay due regard to the interests of its customers and treat them fairly' and expects all staff to treat its customers fairly at all times.

Qualifications required:

  • UK Diploma Level 4 or higher with a focus on Pension Transfer knowledge

Essential skills required:

  • Experience with facetoface and phone appointments with clients
  • Technical knowledge of regulatory requirements of UK pension transfers, tax regulations, financial pension strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful client and business relationships.
  • Collaborative approach in working with Financial Investment Advisers to facilitate the best outcome for the customer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
  • Thorough understanding of financial products and services, as well as factors currently affecting the financial services industry

Employment experience:


At least 2 years' experience in presenting technical financial strategies to advisers and their clients for pension transfers out of the UK..


This is a full-time position based in our Sydney office which will attract a salary of approximately salary $70,000 - $80,000 plus superannuation dependent on experience.
