An exciting opportunity is available for a Social Worker seeking a career in Forensic Mental Health. The Forensic Hospital currently has a Temporary part time position available, for a highly skilled and dynamic Social Worker, working 24 hours per week up to 30 June 2023, who has a commitment to patient centred care and clinical excellence.

About The Forensic Hospital, Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network

What you'll be doing


The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive evidenced informed social work service to patients and their family/carers.

This includes the provision of psychosocial assessments, counselling/family work/ therapy and advocacy to ensure optimal social outcomes. The service includes individual, family, group work and program development. The social work is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure to address the selection criteria below:

  • A degree in Social Work, or other qualification approved for membership of Australian Association of Social Work
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, assessment, counselling and discharge planning in an acute and / or long term mental health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to provide therapeutic interventions for individuals/groups and families and a commitment to evidence based practice in a mental health setting
  • Demonstrated capacity to build professional and therapeutic relationships with acutely unwell patients with a mental illness and / or disability
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and evaluate effective and efficient social work services relevant to a mental health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team in a mental health setting
  • Experience in the facilitation of therapeutic educational programs and group work
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and written communication skills including competent computer literacy
