About Peter Gibson:

36 years of geoscience experience including:

27 years in operations and wellsite geology

9 years in development geology

Australia, Papua New Guinea, South Korea and Indonesia

27 years of experience in wellsite and operations geology primarily with Shell, Chevron and Woodside Energy. Passionate about operations geology with proven workflows for the planning and execution of exploration, appraisal and development drilling programs. Shallow and deepwater drilling and experience in HPHT environments. Accomplished in all aspects of pre-well planning including offset well reviews, Geological Operations Programs (GOP) and the preparation of detailed LWD, mudlogging, wireline and coring programs. A background in development geology provides an additional skill set that allows a greater understanding of the client’s needs through understanding the principles of petrophysics, geological modelling and production geology.

Experience

Senior Operations and Wellsite Geologist                                                   Dec 2015 – Mar 2023

Various Companies

  • Senior Operations Geologist (ENI) for Blacktip-P3 in the Southern Bonaparte Basin. Preparing Geological Operations Program (GOP) and Formation Evaluation Program. Contract management, monitoring drilling operations and writing the final well report.
  • Senior Operations Geologist (Western Gas) for Sasanof-1 a vertical exploration well on the North West Shelf, Australia. Prepared geological operations program, formation evaluation LWD and wireline logging programs.
  • Senior Wellsite Geologist (Woodside Energy) for several moderate pressure deviated development wells on the North West Shelf, Australia and 1 deepwater HPHT exploration well (Swell-1) with pore pressures up to 1.76 sg.
  • Senior Wellsite Geologist (Sapura OMV) for a HPHT vertical exploration well in the Southern Carnarvon Basin, Australia.
  • Senior Operations Geologist (Inpex) planning a highly complex mid to deep water HPHT exploration well in the Browse Basin, Australia. Prepared a comprehensive geological operations program including formation evaluation, mudlogging and wireline programs.
  • Senior Geologist – Drilling Operations (Geological Survey of Victoria): managing the planning for an onshore vertical stratigraphic well.

Senior Operations Geologist                                                                                     Mar 2014 – Dec 2014

INPEX

Senior deep water operations geologist planning a mid to deep water HPHT wildcat.

  • Conducted detailed offset well and geo-hazard / HPHT reviews including an audit of mud weights, total gas, kicks, losses and ballooning in offset wells resulting in a significant change to the proposed mud weight strategy for the proposed well.
  • Developed geological operations program (GOP), formation evaluation program and pore pressure evaluation program.
  • Developed a new workflow to track all pumps-off events, drilled gas, connection gas, swab and trip gas, mud weights, and static and dynamic densities when drilling in HPHT environments. Compared to 3rd party pore pressure models to provide an integrated pore pressure solution.
  • Delivered basis of well design documentation for a shale gas project resulting in the application for and subsequent award of acreage to INPEX in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Operations Geologist                                                                                     Aug 2006 – Mar 2014

Shell

Operations Geologist for 25 high-pressure and low permeability mid-water exploration, appraisal and horizontal development wells and one deep water wildcat HPHT well drilled to ~6000 mMDRT in 1300 m of water. My work at Shell included well planning and execution of Shell’s flagship Prelude floating LNG project comprising 8 horizontal wells drilled to a depth of ~4100 mTVDSS.

  • Tender evaluation and management of 3rd party contracts.
  • QHSSE audits of 3rd party mudlogging, LWD, wireline and palynology units.
  • Offset well and geohazard reviews.
  • Key member of the well planning team delivering landing strategies for 8 batched drilled mid-water horizontal development wells on Shell’s FLNG project at Prelude.
  • Developed comprehensive well documentation including well-specific geological operations programs (GOP), formation evaluation programs, coring programs and detailed pore pressure evaluation plans.
  • Worked with Well Operations Team constructing operational decision trees.
  • Qualitative pore pressure monitoring and focal point for the pore pressure evaluation team.
  • Followed operations and coordinated subsurface people and data during operations.
  • Responsible for the timely dissemination of geological data during well operations, reporting to government authorities and the completion of final well reports and composite logs.

Key achievements at Shell include:

  • Safely planned and executed Shell’s flagship FLNG development comprising 8 horizontal development wells drilled to ~4100 mTVDSS.
  • Safely planned and executed 17 x HP mid-water wells and 1 x HPHT deep-water wildcat well.
  • Created a post-Macondo pore pressure evaluation process to enhance pore pressure surveillance.
  • Diagnosed depth control issues with wireline logs and implemented controls and procedures to ensure accurate depth control on subsequent wells.

Operations Geologist                                                                                     Oct 2004 – Aug 2006

Woodside Energy

Operations Geologist for numerous vertical and horizontal wells in the Timor Sea, Carnarvon, Otway and Browse Basins.

  • Planning and justification of well locations, objectives, prognosis and total depth criteria.
  • Designed and executed numerous horizontal development wells including multi-lateral and underbalanced horizontal wells.
  • Subsurface mapping from well control.
  • Production mapping.
  • Decline curve analysis.
  • Built 3D geological models.
