Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise a team of officers within the Eligibility Assessment Team including:
  • prioritising, allocating and managing the team workload
- supervising the standard of work produced by the team to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy in accordance with relevant legislation and Blue Card Services' objectives
- providing operational direction and legal, procedural and/or administrative advice to members of the legal team to ensure that the service is delivered and provided in a secure, confidential and timely manner
- mentoring the Eligibility Assessment Team officers by drawing on previous legal knowledge and experience
- identifying training needs within the team and liaising with the Manager, Eligibility Assessment to coordinate and/or source internal and/or external training
- conducting performance management reviews for officers in the Eligibility Assessment Team
- implementing and managing change initiatives within the Eligibility Assessment Team, including encouraging and motivating staff to accept change and refining work practices in order to adopt any change directives
- monitoring and contributing to Personal Evaluation Plans for all team members, and
- contributing to recruitment and selection processes within the Eligibility Assessment Team.

  • Review assessments and recommendations provided by officers in the Eligibility Assessment Team to ensure they are in the best interests of children and young people.
  • Review, adjust and refine existing operational and administrative practices, systems and procedures to facilitate the provision of a consistent, confidential and secure service, and provide feedback, advice and suggestions to the Manager, Eligibility Assessment.
  • Draft contributions for the relevant chapters of the team's procedure and process manual to facilitate the provision of a consistent, confidential and secure service.
  • Provide legal, policy, procedural and/or administrative advice to the Manager, Eligibility Assessment, members in the Directorate, and other staff of the Screening Services Unit as required.
  • Provide information about screening provisions and legislative requirements related to employment screening in response to queries from external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with the advocacy officers to:
  • ensure assessments and recommendations are conducted in the best interest of children and young people
- continuously improve processes and procedures between the Eligibility Assessment officers and advocacy officers to ensure assessments and recommendations reflect quality, consistency and accuracy in accordance with Blue Card Services' objectives, and
- maintain open communication within the team and ensure information and knowledge is openly exchanged between the officers within the team.

  • Prepare correspondence, documents, reports, statistical information and submissions as required by the Manager, Eligibility Assessment in relation to screening provisions and legislative requirements related to employment screening.
  • Consult, liaise and negotiate with external stakeholders to maintain a strong working relationship in order to facilitate employment screening in the best interests of children and young people. This includes liaising and consulting with government and nongovernment agencies in relation to the ongoing development and administration of employment screening.
  • Represent Blue Card Services on various committees, working parties and forums as required in relation to employment screening.
