About the Role

Leading a small team this key position - Coordinator Governance - is responsible for the development and implementation of Council's Governance framework, seeking to achieve optimum outcomes for the organisation and to enable achievement of Council's strategic objectives.

As such focus of the role is promoting good governance, maintaining probity of Council's decision-making processes, and assisting with the implementation of Council's Policy, and Legislative Compliance Frameworks and ensuring awareness and currency of administration and governance practices and policies.

This senior specialist role provides multi-functional advice to all departments and the Executive team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Council's Governance framework providing expert advice to Executive and staff and continually review and implement improvements to the Framework.
  • Coordination of the business paper function (including preparation of the agenda, minutes and allocation and monitoring of actions) and attending meetings to take live minutes at the meeting.
  • Coordinate and have oversight of delegations and legislative compliance including managing the process to identify legislation changes and make responsible officers aware of such changes
  • Maintain various registers including but not limited to GIPA, Delegations, Donations and Sponsorship and Conflicts of Interest /Pecuniary Interest etc.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and review of Council's Policy Framework, including coordinating the regular review and updating of Policies on the Council Policy Register.
  • Manage the day to day operation of Council's Internal Audit function in conjunction with relevant stakeholders including the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee, Council Executive and Internal Audit provider. Coordinate the operation and provide meeting support for the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee

About You

A leadership role, we are seeking a highly motivated individual and who is able to demonstrate experience in a similar position.

Whilst not essential, ideally you will bringing with you an understanding of Local Government legislation and processes and will hold a tertiary qualification in law, corporate governance, public policy, business or a related discipline.


Lastly and as would be expected of such a position, excellent communication skills are essential as is experience of complex report writing, strategy and plan development and ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
