The Decarbonisation team is responsible for finding and implementing commercially and technically viable zero-emission solutions for Fortescue's business units (including Metals, Energy, and WAE).

The team's immediate objective is to successfully deliver Real Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions in our Australian iron ore operations by 2030.

This means the complete elimination of gas and diesel from our sites.

The Decarbonisation team consists of a mix of core central roles complimented by a matrix organisation of dedicated personnel across functions and operations within the business to ensure joint ownership of the design, delivery and operation of decarbonised solutions.


The primary focus of this role is to lead the successful identification, design, development, and implementation of zero-emission heavy mining equipment (HME) solutions, aligned with agreed mining methods, for Metals.

The green HME scope includes high-power static and dynamic charging requirements, which are to be integrated with the backbone electrical infrastructure and the evolving demands of the life of mine plan.

Elements of the role include leadership, ideation, strategy, design, cost and commercial, budgeting, scheduling, operability, maintainability, health and safety, people requirements and change management.


Key responsibilities:


_ Technical_

  • Ensure the technical and commercial integrity of decarbonisation solutions in the mine for FMG
  • Identify, design and develop green HME aligned with selected mining methods for all Operations
  • Identify and select green LME/SME aligned with charging and infrastructure all Operations
  • Define requirements for the optimal combination of static and dynamic charging for HME
  • Lead risk and opportunity management and contingency planning for mine decarbonisation (in relation to mobile fleet)
  • Develop and execute testing and validation of solutions as required to help manage risk
  • Ensure fleet automation developments align with and complement green HME requirements
  • Ensure integrated telemetry data across mine decarbonisation solutions enable diagnostics, condition monitoring, performance improvements, reporting and Artificial Intelligence
  • Establish and maintain accurate Total Cost of Ownership models and capital and operating budgets to guide tradeoff studies and support the Integration team's reporting needs
  • Maximise interoperability, standardisation and open architectures across solution ranges, whilst ensuring future commercialisation of solutions is enabled where relevant
  • Support Demand Response initiatives for green mining to help match power supply and demand
  • Provide all necessary requirements and documentation to support Operational Readiness teams

_Leadership_

  • Provide visible felt leadership for all aspects of Fortescue's Decarbonisation program, especially onsite and with the functional mobile asset management teams
  • Be an active, supportive, and passionate contributor to the Decarbonisation Leadership Team
  • Take a leading role in establishing and maintaining effective relations with FFI, Liebherr and other key OEMs, OTMs and vendors in partnership with Procurement and Logistics
  • Contribute to informing Change Management priorities and approaches
  • Lead agile teams and manage people
  • Contribute to government and industry regulator activities to ensure compliance
  • Always work collaboratively with FMG, FFI and key contractors to set and deliver stretch targets

Qualifications and skills required:


  • Degree qualification in engineering or related technical discipline
  • Complementary qualifications in business or technology are preferred
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in industry
