The Role

At ALS, our safety team is passionate about providing practical guidance, technical advice and tailored support and we partner with our site leadership team to achieve workable outcomes for our employees and the business.

We need a passionate, driven and organised person to be a key player in achieving our most important core principle - We are Safe.

Working Monday to Friday, this is a full-time permanent position. We are seeking a hands-on work health and safety enthusiast to drive our safety culture.

Due to the size of our organisation this is a standalone role that will provide you with the opportunity to make a real difference.

You will need to be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get involved but be equally comfortable working with and influencing senior management.


The day to day
As a positive influence to drive the ALS safety culture your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide support to management and staff. Consult, advise and enforce site safety policies and procedures
  • Undertake HSE inspections and safety audits. Investigate incidents, identify causes and corrective actions
  • Support managers and employees with injury prevention and management
  • Conducting and coordinating HSE training to staff to promote and reinforce a positive safety culture.
  • Managing and developing risk assessments
  • Monitoring and recording hazard observations, near misses and injuries.
  • Keep abreast of safety and industry best practice and offer ideas for continuous improvement
  • Reviewing the local safety system to ensure compliance to company standards, keeping records and logs up to date and reporting any issues or concerns to management
  • Working with the national HSE team to ensure alignment across laboratories

About you

  • Confidence in your knowledge and ability, which helps you easily build rapport and trust at all levels of the organisation
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and goal driven
  • Formal qualifications (Cert IV minimum) and previous experience in HSE
  • Experience in incident investigations, risk assessments and auditing
  • Organised, levelheaded and have a commonsense approach
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and numeracy skills is a must
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to compliance
  • An ability to work cooperatively with team members and management
  • An working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment legislation and standards.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment would be advantageous
