ABOUT THE ROLE:

We ar looking for a Curator to join our Exhibition Team on 12 month contract.

The Purpose of this role is to provide curatorial and interpretation services and advice to enhance and evolve The Perth Mint's exhibition.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Exhibitions and

Public Programs:
_

  • Lead the research, scheduling, planning and development of exhibitions, new tour experiences, and interpretation programs.
  • Plan, develop and install exhibitions and related projects.
  • Manage project budgets and spend.
  • Lead the acquisition of relevant artifacts.
  • Assist across a range of other exhibition operations, including signage, content design and AV upgrade developments.
  • Develop relevant educational aspects of Exhibitions and communicate to internal stakeholders (Tour Guides, Reception, Public Relations, and Marketing).
  • Collection management: _
  • Develop a collection database and digitise materials.
  • Learn about the history of The Perth Mint and understand artifacts of interest and value, handling and their ongoing display and storage.
  • Where relevant arrange transit and insurance coverage, and appropriate valuations of items.
  • Ensure compliance with loan agreements.
  • Related accountabilities: _
  • Contribute to the development of related policies and procedures.
  • Work with various departments across the business to curate and promote the exhibitions/displays.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Ensure own safety and health at work and avoid adversely affecting the safety or health of any other person through any act or omission at work.

Experience:


  • Working in a curatorial role within the museum or heritage sector, including demonstrated experience in project management and developing exhibitions, or some years of experience working or volunteering in a comparable role.
  • Demonstrated experience in appropriate manual handling procedures for museum or fine art objects, and the ability to mount, prepare and display objects.
  • Leading project teams to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Tertiary qualification to postgraduate level in curatorial, museum studies or related discipline.
