About The Role


The Community Relations Advisor is a key role for all aspects of community engagement and social performance work across Iluka's WA assets and project areas throughout WA's mid-west and south-west regions.

The role also requires liaison with the managers of rehabilitation operations, projects and exploration.

You will support community and stakeholder engagement practices and social performance across WA.

The advisor will be required to exhibit a strong understanding of applicable Australian requirements and best practice to ensure that the company's current and future activities are well understood by all stakeholders.


As the Community Relations Advisor you will also be required to work closely with exploration, project development, mining, processing and rehabilitation and closure operations within the region.

The position will be supported by Iluka's Communities Team, led by the Manager, Communities & Indigenous Affairs based in our corporate office in Perth.


Role Accountabilities Will Include:

  • Support the development and implementation of the regional/site/Project Stakeholder Engagement Strategies to build positive stakeholder relationships and ensure a consistency across all Iluka groups working in the region.
  • Design, write and produce key internal and external communications, reports and publications.
  • Facilitate community visits and external stakeholder site visits.
  • Coordinate information gathering and communicate regional wide initiatives.
  • Manage the locallevel grievance mechanism(s); ensure all complaints are logged, investigated, followed up and resolved.
  • Support the development and implementation of a regional social investment program [sponsorships, donations, community projects and partnerships], including identifying opportunities for engaging Iluka personnel.
  • Ensure inclusion of social risk in all risk assessment processes, and work with relevant teams to ensure appropriate controls (e.g. monitoring) are in place to address identified social risks Responsible to ensure regional monitoring and supporting WA sites and compliance with: (i) relevant regulations and (ii) Iluka's Social Performance to policies, standards and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for acknowledgement of Iluka's social performance.
  • Coordinate stakeholder perception surveys & economic contributions studies.
About You

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social performance related-fields (sustainability, sociology, anthropology, management, environment).
  • Extensive experience in community relations and/or other stakeholder management-related roles.
  • Confidence and ability to engage with external stakeholders and directly influence internal stakeholders to strengthen social performance.
  • Strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement, social impact management, and broader corporate social responsibility aspects.
  • A high standard of written and verbal communications skills.


It is also expected that you will possess a broad understanding of mining and minerals processing, a proven ability to set goals and work to them independently, to a high standard, coupled with broad knowledge of social performance issues facing the extractives industry.

Some travel will be required.
