This position requires an individual of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent in compliance with s25 of the Anti-discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

About the role


The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Trainee will be responsible for delivering high-quality Aboriginal health worker services within a primary health care framework, assisting a medical/primary health care team, and effectively managing workloads to achieve desired outcomes.

Duties

  • Maintaining health records.
  • Serving as a communicator and interpreter for clients and colleagues.
  • Participating in case management and follow-up procedures, independently or in collaboration with other healthcare providers.
  • Offering health education to clients and healthcare professionals.
  • Providing cultural education to individuals outside the community.
  • Delivering life skills education, counseling, and crisis intervention referrals within the community.
  • Contributing to the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.

Skills and Experiences:

COVID-19 requirements

  • Proof of full Covid19 vaccination.
Required

  • Identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander individual as per s25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991 (Qld).


Willingness and ability to pursue at least a Cert III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

Capability to work independently, under guidance, or within a multidisciplinary team. Previous experience in engaging with diverse cultural backgrounds. Demonstrated capacity to meet targets and performance goals. Effective and sensitive communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals. Up-to-date National Police Check.

  • Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligibility for application.
  • Disability Worker Screening Card (Yellow Card) or eligibility for application.
