Position Information:


The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools.

We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.


About the Role


School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes.

This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required.

In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings:
pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual.

Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.


Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
  • Administration of Medications training to be provided based on student needs.

Selection Criteria:


  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
  • Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
  • Effective communication skills.

Morisset High School is located on the southwestern side of Lake Macquarie and is a proud comprehensive and inclusive public school that caters for 710 Year 7-12 students.

Approximately 20 per cent of students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and are well supported by the Itji-Marru Aboriginal Resource Centre and staff which was established in 1992.

There are nine Special Education Support classes catering for students with additional learning needs.

The school has a unique learning partnership with Big Picture Education Australia and has four Big Picture Advisories in the Morisset High School Big Picture Academy.

This provides our students with an alternative, student-driven learning opportunity and in 2021, will see students achieving the International Big Picture Learning Credential.

While the school offers a broad range of curriculum opportunities, school-based VET options include; Primary Industries (Agriculture), Retail, Business Services, Sports Coaching, Hospitality (Kitchen Operations/Food and Beverages), Construction Pathways, Manufacturing and Engineering and Hairdressing.

The positive school culture is underpinned by Restorative practices, approaches and processes servicing all learners within our whole school community.

Each staff member commits to being an informed professional who caters for the educational, physical, social and emotional wellbeing of our students.

The school continues to strengthen the Western Shores Learning Alliance with partner primary schools, to ensure a proactive K-12 approach to education through the Positive Behaviour for Learning processes adopted by all schools in the Western Shores Learning Alliance (WSLA).
