About the role:


  • We are recruiting an Aboriginal Health Worker on a temporary fulltime basis from 15 January to 22 November 2024 on maternity relief.
  • There is opportunity to discuss temporary parttime 23 days per week.
  • This position is responsible for the provision of flexible, holistic, and culturally sensitive health prevention programs and health services for Aboriginal clients and the community.
  • Daily tasks include organising and facilitating healthy lifestyle and fitness programs, building partnerships with other health professionals and partner organisations to achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal people.
  • The role also supports Aboriginal clients to identify health needs through health assessment, develop relevant health plans, provide appropriate referral and follow up.

Where you'll be working:


  • This temporary position in the Aboriginal Health Unit can be based in Singleton or Muswellbrook Community Health and provides services to Aboriginal communities in the Hunter Valley sector including Singleton, Muswellbrook and surrounds.
  • The role works independently and as part of a small team that covers Lower Hunter, Hunter Valley and Lower Mid North Coast sectors.
  • The AHU aims to provide support to all staff in a number of ways including orientation handover, site orientation, buddied with a team member from Taree, a weekly team meeting, regular manager catchups during orientation period, monthly rounding with linemanager, AHU Staff monthly meeting Cultural Supervision Yarning available.
  • The base location of this position is negotiable
  • Singleton or Muswellbrook.

About you:


  • You are a motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious person with the ability to work independently or in partnership with other health professionals.
  • You have good communication skills, organised and enjoy building positive relationships with community and other services to enable delivery healthy lifestyle programs to Aboriginal community.

Requirements:


  • Hold AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, or willingness to obtain AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
  • Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required.
- _Desirable_: holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Fitness and including the Group Fitness module.
