About the role:


The Specialist Investigators Support Unit (SISU) are seeking an experienced Psychologist or Social Worker to join their dynamic and innovative, wellbeing focused team as a clinical team leader.

The successful applicant will jointly lead and supervise a multidisciplinary mental health team alongside another clinical team leader.
The SISU was established in early 2018 sits within Family Violence Command (FVC).

The SISU provide specialised clinical services to identify and address the psychological health and wellbeing needs of employees working in the themes of child abuse, sexual offending and family violence, including the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Teams (SOCITs) and Family Violence Investigation Units (FVIUs).

The team has also commenced a pilot project offering the SISU model of service to Search and Rescue and Water Police squads.

The SISU offers a range of individual, workgroup and organisational interventions. Services include training and education, individual short-term counselling, manager support and coaching, group reflective practice and critical incident response. These services are in addition to organisational wide wellbeing services available to all Victoria Police employees.

Your duties will include:


  • Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of psychological/wellbeing interventions for the Victoria Police employees predominantly working in the crime themes of sexual offending, child abuse and family violence.
  • Providing professional supervision, clinical oversight and day to day management of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Monitoring and managing compliance with ethical, professional and organisational requirements.
  • Leading SISU specialist portfolios and areas of practice. Portfolios may include manager coaching, clinical interventions, group reflective practice, research and evaluation, training and education.
  • Providing high level advice regarding psychological health and wellbeing within an organisational context as required.
  • Provide regular reporting of wellbeing indicators, program outcomes and service delivery.
  • Representing the SISU at the senior staff level within FVC and the organisation more broadly.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading/managing a team of professionals in the delivery of high-quality services and projects.
  • Substantial clinical experience in the provision of mental health/wellbeing services such as clinical assessments, counselling, risk assessment, crisis intervention, critical incidents and case management. Experience and a qualification in manager coaching would also be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide autonomous clinical judgement and discretion in dealing with complex, sensitive and confidential issues within an organisational context.
  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed written skills to produce high level documents and analytical reports as required.
  • Proven ability to initiate, develop and evaluate wellbeing/clinical services in line with best practice principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Region/Department/Command.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct, Financial Code of Practice, and the Organisational Values.

Requirements and relevant information:


  • One (1) x fulltime, 12 Month Fixed Term Maternity Leave Backfill commencing early July 202
  • The position will be based in the Docklands; however, involves travel around Victoria, including overnight stays on a regular basis.
  • Full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Registration number must be provided; or Eligibility for registration as a Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Masters equivalent in psychology or social work is desired.
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months
