The Opportunity


Phantom Works - Global (PWG), the Defence R&D arm of Boeing, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the Maritime Autonomy R&D team.

You will work within an interdisciplinary group of software and systems engineers taking a model-based engineering approach to the development of autonomous maritime capabilities.

This role will see you provide technical leadership and guidance to the software team during both lab-based synthetic activities, as well as field trials with surrogate and prototype platforms.

Working in the role you will have the opportunity to

  • Strong knowledge of modern C++ principles and practice (C++ 14/17 is mandatory) and C++ frameworks (eg Qt, Boost)
  • Good software development skills in other languages including C#, Python
  • Experience in software requirements analysis, functional analysis, software design & development, and software integration & test
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change, support the development of technical plans, documents and able to provide high level guidance to the software team
  • Ability to communicate complex software concepts in both written and verbal formats to management as well as the technical team
  • Lead, coach, mentor and motivate a dedicated team that is focused on delivering new capability to our customers
  • Significant experience using both Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Experience in participating in software development cycles using agile methods and processes
  • Lead software development with exposure to any of:
  • Underwater acoustics
  • Aerodynamics and flight simulation
  • Electronics and Communications
  • Radar, EO/IR, and passive sensor systems
  • Tactical Data Links
  • Industry specific simulation tools
  • Support Verification & Validation and testing activities
  • Maintain a diverse and inclusive team through effective communication and collaboration.
A minimum of 10 years' experience within software engineering teams is required for the role. In addition to the tasks described above, you will be required to work cooperatively within the larger PWG Team.
