Position Information:


John Palmer Public School is a large, dynamic and student-centred school located in The Ponds, a rapidly growing area in North West Sydney (enrolment 1027, 64% EALD, including an Early Intervention Class).

The school has strong community links and the educational opportunities for students are focused on developing each individual through the values, Integrity, Excellence and Innovation, embedded as part of the school culture.

The facilities upgrade at John Palmer PS are almost complete. When finished, these new facilities will incorporate a hub of 3 support classes.


Selection Criteria:


In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs including autism spectrum disorder and moderate intellectual disabilities.


Capacity and experience in mentoring, providing professional development and assistance to colleagues to support students with additional learning and support needs and/or disability.


High level organisational and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to engage, inspire and support staff, whilst balancing the learning and support coordinator role and the complex administrative role of an executive in special education.


Evidence of a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leader with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with students, families, and the wider community.


General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
