About the role

- As a dynamic and innovative member of our school community, you will improve the English language acquisition and educational outcomes for EAL/D students in our school


In particular you will:

  • Assess EAL/D students' English language learning and review data to inform learning and teaching
  • Focus on the engagement, progress, achievement and wellbeing of students whose home language is not English
  • Scaffold the English language learning needs of EAL/D students for progressing learning in the curriculum
  • Develop partnerships within the school community, classroom teachers and education officers to support learning of EAL/D students
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement, monitor and evaluate innovative ideas, practices and strategies to support the learning of English.
  • Proactively engage with professional learning to enhance student learning outcomes aligned to The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) goals for young Australians
  • Ensure that the teachings and values of the Catholic Church form a foundation for learning and teaching.

About you - To be successful in this role you will bring relevant qualifications and contemporary teaching experience as well as:

  • A strong knowledge of EAL/D practices including designing teaching and learning tasks and assessing EAL/D students' English language
  • Strong literacy, numeracy and digital literacy practices plus experience using the Australian Curriculum in a flexible manner to meet the needs of a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated competence against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers across professional knowledge, practice and engagement.
  • A willingness to maintain professional learning specific to the field of EAL/D (in particular TESOL).
  • Commitment to engage with colleagues, students, and parents/carers to achieve the best outcomes
  • Commitment to child safety.

At BCE our teachers are required to:

  • Hold a current Queensland College of Teachers registration; and
  • Be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

About our school:

St Mark's Primary School is situated in the western suburbs of Brisbane. It prides itself on the community spirit displayed by students, teachers and parents. Our current enrolment is approximately 500 students. We encourage students to develop a knowledge of other cultures, languages and environmental and social issues.

_Do I have to be Catholic?_
All BCE teachers must have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education. If this role does not require you to teach Religious Education, you do not need to be Catholic.


Our teachers of Religious Education are required to be Catholic and attain Accreditation to teach Religion in a Catholic school.
