Please note:

Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.

The Laboratory Assistant works collaboratively within the Laboratory Management Team (LMT), who provide a range of general laboratory support services to scientists at AgriBio, enabling research teams to focus on scientific outcomes.

While this role is primarily responsible for running inductions, processing building access requests and advising on chemical management, the Laboratory Assistant will also be trained in the full range of LMT services, including waste and PPE management, equipment and contractor management, front counter services at the central store, stocking of satellite stores and receipt of deliveries at the loading dock.

The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Run laboratory induction and training programmes (online and face to face) for staff, and maintain complete and accurate records.
Assist staff to use the chemical management tool, ChemAlert and monitor safe and compliant use of chemicals at AgriBio.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in science, including chemistry unit(s) is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 October 2023. The work location for this position is Bundoora.
