The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has two exciting opportunities for driven individuals to join our organisation as a Social Worker.

The OPP is committed to ensuring the Victims and Witness Assistant Service continues to provide a high standard of support and service to the Victorian community, as an integral part of the prosecution service.

All Social Workers provide professional information and support at the highest standard in relation to victims of crime and their role in the indictable prosecution process and criminal justice system.


About the Social Worker Role:


  • Provide a specialised response, including assistance and information, to victims, witnesses and families of deceased involved in the prosecution of indictable criminal offences.
  • Conduct legal conferences with solicitors and prosecutors to ensure victims and witnesses are well informed and prepared for court hearings and criminal justice processes.
  • Work cooperatively with the instructing solicitor and other stakeholders as assigned to a Trial Division in Melbourne or to a regional circuit court matter, to ensure a high standard of service to victims and witnesses.
  • Extensive case management experience which including providing assistance, information and referral to clients in complex cases.
  • Proven ability to work in a demanding team environment, managing complex situations, highly sensitive issues and contribute to innovative ways of working.
  • Sound knowledge of the criminal justice system including an understanding of legislation and government policy affecting victims of crime.
  • Experience in working with grief, loss and trauma, in particular a deep understanding of victim survivor experiences relating to family violence and the impact of sexual assault on adults and children.

Relevant Knowledge and Experience:


  • A qualification in social work, psychology or a related discipline and a valid Victorian driver's licence is essential.


The position will require travel to country Victoria to assist victims and witnesses involved in the prosecution of indictable offences.
