About the position:

The Defence School Mentor Program allocates funds to schools to minimize the educational impact on Defence students due to the mobile lifestyle. This program aids Defence students and their families in transitioning between schools, assimilating into the school community, and providing support during parental absences. Its goal is to support students in Defence families in key areas throughout their educational journey and school transitions.

The crucial areas include:
  • Welcoming and integrating students and families
  • Support during parental absences and deployments
  • Farewelling activities
As the Defence School Mentor, your main responsibilities will include:
  • Aiding the transition of Defence families and students during postings
  • Offering age-appropriate social and emotional support to Defence students facing parental absence and relocation
  • Informing Defence families about the school environment and available support programs
  • Enhancing school staff's capacity to address the needs of students from Defence families
  • Providing educational resources and establishing programs for Defence students' well-being

About you:
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in collaborating with staff, students, and families
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
While a current knowledge of the Defence Forces is advantageous, it is not mandatory. For regulated employment, a Working with Children Clearance (blue card) is required.
