About the company


A community minded local government authority based in the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne are looking for someone to join their WHS team.

Reporting to the WHS manager and supporting the council to partner with stakeholders across the business to provide and promote expert WHS advice.

Initially this role is a 3-month contract but is likely to be extended and it could lead to permanent work.

The council currently operate a flexible hybrid work model but some travel into the office will be required.


Your key responsibilities include:


  • Promote and guide managers and staff with WHS management and make recommendations on safety improvements needed to achieve high level hazard controls
  • Support and contribute to the Return to Work (RTW) program
  • Complete audits and inspections and advice on compliance and safety improvements
  • Assist with injury management and return to work plans
  • Develop and promote WHS communications including, safety alerts and guides on key issues
  • Coordination and administration of the WHS committee
  • Developing and completing policy, factsheets and reports
  • Work to tight timeframes
  • Assist with WHS investigations
  • Assist with building, review and implementation of the WHS system including review of safety inspections and audits
  • WHS project work as required

You will have the following:


  • A diploma or degree in OHS or related discipline
  • Significant experience delivering contemporary and practical WHS solutions
  • Experience or understanding of workers' compensation and return to work obligations
  • Have a good working knowledge of the OHS Act 2004 and OHS regulations 201
  • An understanding of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 201
  • Ability to compile, analyse and present statistical data
