About the role:


Metro is looking for a skilled operative to undertake corrective, preventative and reactive maintenance and renewals activities of track assets.

You'll need to have track experience and thrive working in a team environment, using your written and oral communication skills to help produce exceptional quality work in line with standards set by Metro.

You'll be labouring, installing and maintaining works on track, working safely and efficiently to meet deadlines.

To be successful in this role you'll have an interest in/be familiar with mechanical systems, and have a flair for finding solutions that improve processes and increase productivity.

This position is a night shift role working 22:0006:00 on a Sunday-Thursday night roster, accruing an extra day off every 4 weeks. You must be able to work reasonable overtime as required, responding to after hour's emergencies.


Responsibilities include:

Undertake maintenance and installation work to ensure timely completion of maintenance or renewals tasks. Perform construction, maintenance, repair, renewal or upgrade of track assets, including:
  • Rail and all track components, sleepers, ballast, formation, reserve management, drainage and geometry management.
Install and maintain lubricator units involving rail grease. Complete labouring tasks using hand tools and mechanical tools, regularly performing one or more of the following tasks: Welding, track inspection, or operation of mobile/mechanised plant. Carry out regular checks as per plant maintenance schedules, maintaining the workplace, yards, and any tools/equipment used. Actively participate in onjob instruction, pre and postwork meetings, as well as contributing to toolbox and visualisation meetings. Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with internal and external policies and procedures, including OH&S


About you:

Cert II Rail Infrastructure (Core and Track Fundamentals). Train Track Safety Awareness Certificate. Safeworking L2.1 (Lookout) or be willing to obtain and practice when required. Safeworking L2.2 (Handsignaller) or be willing to obtain and practice when required. Experience, ability and fitness level to be able to use powered plant, including (but not limited to): Rail Saw (Disc Cutter), Impact Wrench, Rail Drill, Hand Held Tamper, Hydraulic Spike Puller, Hydraulic Huck Bolt machine, Hydraulic Track Tensor units. Sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail and maintenance industry, OHS Act, Codes of Practice, regulations, safe working practices, and HV Rules. Medium Rigid (MR) driver's license preferred. First Aid Certificate Level preferred.
